| Morropó
The hill where the lighthouse was built is called
Punta Mulas by fishermen and navigators, but is known to the people
of the town as Morropó. This name is a corruption
of the French, mon repose. The story goes that a Frenchman
had built a house on this hill, which he dedicated to rest and
relaxation and because of this he named it, Mon Repose,
(My Rest).

Puente Morropó
The Frenchman went to this house every afternoon to relax and
when the coachman would ask, “Where can a take you? He would
answer, to Mon Repose. The house has since fallen down
and has disappeared completely, but the people continue to call
the area in its Spanish form, Morropó
